About

Good to Meet You

All my life I dreamed of working for National Geographic photographing exotic animals and traveling the world. I never imagined I could make a living doing what I loved, so I gave up on my dream and worked in Finance. I went to UMASS Boston and received my degree in Business Management. I worked at a large mutual fund company and had photos posted all over my cubical. Everyone kept on telling me, you need to do what you love…

Hello!

Thank you so much for checking out my website!

See those little children in the photos above? They are my babies. They are growing quickly!  These three little ones and my husband are my world. They make me tick and they allow me to do what I love. I am also an artist, I find it difficult to talk about myself, I could show you in photos, but that would take too long! So here is an honest attempt to tell you how I came about doing what I love and of course about my life:

All my life I dreamed of working for National Geographic photographing exotic animals and traveling the world. I never imagined I could make a living doing what I loved, so I gave up on my dream and worked in Finance. I went to UMASS Boston and received my degree in Business Management. I worked at a large mutual fund company and had photos posted all over my cubical. Everyone kept on telling me, you need to do what you love…

So I did. In 2007, I began researching photography schools and came up with a couple options. My husband is a business guy and always told me if I wanted to do something drastic, I would have to present it to him. So I created a power point presentation on why I needed to go to photography school. I presented the pros and cons and of course, included photos of animals and flowers, all that I had photographed up to that point.

He went for it and that is the moment that changed my life. I enrolled at Boston University’s Center for Digital Imaging Arts. I found two photographers who were willing to allow me to tag along on weddings to build my portfolio. I photographed 30 weddings as a second shooter in 2007 for free, because I loved it and needed to prove to myself this is what I want to do. Those weddings allowed me to create an amazing portfolio and started my business.

My lifelong passion for animals made way for children with the birth of my son in the beginning of 2008. I decided after giving birth to Landon I would quit my finance job and advertise my photography business. My life has been a dream ever since.

We tried for years to have more children and the odds were not in our favor. In 2012, my husband and I decided to go through the adoption process. We were fortunate to be selected by a birth mother in Michigan and in October 2012 we welcomed Harlowe Jane to our family. Harlowe comes from an amazing family who we remain close to. In fact her birth Aunt, Lexie, loves photography and is in the process of starting a business in Michigan! Harlowe is amazing, well beyond her years, do you see those amazing curls on her? She is perfect and we thought she completed our family.

We were wrong! After 7 years of trying to have a baby naturally and 5 years of infertility treatment we found out in June of 2013 we were expecting our third little miracle. Our baby girl Lillian Vera was born in January 2014. I mean it now, our family is complete and we are happier then ever.

We learned a ton in the past 8 years about children and how much of a miracle they are. When we were newlyweds we dreamed of having three kids and after 5 years we thought well maybe one will be fine. We were blessed with Harlowe and double blessed with the birth of Lillian.

So to conclude, I love photographing weddings and I am passionate about children. The awesome thing is that often after a wedding a couple will have a child. It is such an honor to be a part of the most amazing parts of peoples lives. Photos of my family means the world to me. Being able to do them for other families is an honor.

I am an active member of PPA, Professional Photographers of America. I am also a volunteer with an amazing organization called “Flashes of Hope” where I photograph local children with life threatening illnesses.

Thanks for reading! Caty 🙂 .
