I had the pleasure of meeting up with Renee and Matt recently for their engagement portraits. We had previously been rained out, so with their wedding date coming up, we just choose a date I happened to be up north camping and photographing a wedding for their engagement photos.

They choose The Omni Mount Washington Hotel for their engagement photos. I have photographed quite a few weddings there and love it. It is one of the most beautiful hotels in New England, coming from Cape Cod where Chatham Bars Inn and the Wequassett are, this is saying a lot. I drove by the hotel on the way to my wedding the day before. If you have never driven by you need to do it at least once. It sits alone in the mountains and is jaw dropping. Anyway, it is located in this little section of New Hampshire that gets its own weather. It might be sunny where you are, but as you drive closer to the hotel, it could be snowing, raining.. or the total opposite. So lets just say, on my drive out there it stated out with sun, when I got there it was raining. Not a huge deal, I photographed a wedding in the rain the day before.. I was just kind of hoping to avoid it. I did do something on the way, which I tend to do while shooting. I scoped out roadside locations. I like to think you can take photos anywhere, even the side of the road. Up in Northern New Hampshire the side of the road, happens to be gorgeous, with little rivers, small lakes, tall trees and mountains.

Renee and Matt met me at 7 am. The thought was to avoid crowds that could be at the hotel if we are there later. It worked, we were the only ones out at the time with exception of a few hotel employees. We took a few shots around the hotel and then went out side.. into the rain. We could see it was sunny in the distance so we hopped in our cars and they followed me to three locations I had scoped out on the way there.

Needless to say, despite the rain, and the cold water I asked them to stand it, things went really well. I am super excited for their wedding next month in Hudson, New Hampshire, a little closer to home:)
