Tiffany and Dan’s wedding was one day (actually two) that I will never forget. My relationship with Tiffany started with a phone call. She asked if I had photographed an Indian Wedding before. Yes. She asked if I had photographed at Wentworth by the Sea in New Castle, New Hampshire before. Yes. Perfect. She booked me:)
I showed up the night before Tiffany and Dan’s wedding for their rehearsal dinner at Wentworth by the Sea. What I thought would be a 40 person dinner ended up being an awesome big party, kind of like a pre wedding, it was a beautiful showcase of what was to come. There was a Henna station set up doing henna on the bridal party, Tiffany’s mother and other relatives and anyone else who wanted it it. It is such a neat thing to watch. I stayed for a couple hours getting to know the important players for the following day. Here are a couple images from the Rehearsal Dinner:
The next day, Saturday, I arrived around noon to photograph Tiffany and her bridesmaids getting ready for what was to be a fun filled day. When I arrived Tiffany was just finishing putting her first dress on and put her veil on with her sisters, mother, father and bridesmaids by her side: We headed out to their beautiful balcony for a couple photos before she tied the knot at her American Wedding Ceremony which took place at Corpus Christi Parish in Portsmouth, New Hampshire: The Groomsmen met my second shooter at the church for a couple photos before hand. It was funny, my second shooter asked me about their personalities. I said, super serious. lol. That was far from reality! They were a bunch of golf loving characters, up for anything.
The ceremony went off without a hitch and was beautiful:
From the church we headed back to Wentworth by the Sea for a few formal photos before everyone changed into their Indian attire:Let me just tell you the attention to detail that goes into Traditional Indian dress is out of this world. it is amazing the amount of time and effort that went into each woman getting dressed. The details where superb. In Indian tradition the groom arrives surrounded by his friends and family. This is called a Baraat. Typically a groom may arrive on a horse, in some cases they arrive on elephants, Dan arrived via Golf Cart, not surprising! Totally fitting for him. The Baraat sometimes becomes quite large, but is intimate and so much fun. Theres lots of traditional Indian music dancing, chanting, singing, laughing and in this case, a drummer: When the groom arrived, carried in by his friends, the Tiffany’s mom placed a pinch of vermilion powder on Dans forehead. They then exchanged Wreaths. In Indian Tradition, whom ever gets the wreath on first, has the upper hand in marriage: Tiffany won:
The details for the Indian ceremony were exquisite. Every little detail was hand picked:Bridal party and some friends: Tiffany made it clear when we spoke that formal photos were not a priority to her, she would rather us capture things as they happened. So while we just had a few moments I took advantage taking just a couple photos. A moment with the bride and groom:
Before the reception was set to being at Wentworth by the Sea, Tiffany and Dan took a few moments to change back into their American wedding attire. While they did that we captured a few of her details. She wanted to make sure that her guests were well represented and the importance of their marriages. She asked each couple who was married to provide a wedding photo: The toasts were absolutely hilarious. Tiffany’s sisters with very traditional Indian names explained how Tiffany was named. She was born in the 80’s so I will give you one guess:) (“I think We’re Alone Now” was topping the charts!!!)Such an amazing, unforgettable day for two incredible people. Everything about the day was perfect, from the details to all the colors and dresses. Congratulations Tiffany and Dan!
